Sorry for not bringing it up earlier. It is more like "it does not work,
and then - now twice - I see it work for very brief periods of time". I
am pretty sure it's not numlock - it is one of the first things I
checked. Now the whole thing does not work again; I tried toggling all
my locks (I do have caps-lock remapped to control), and none of the
other keys had any effect. Middle mouse button works as expected in the
root window, so I don't think it is a problem with a mouse or a middle
button click.
