No. The "gthumb" you fought with was version 3.6.2, mine is version 3.4.3. Neither is there any point where right-clicking produces a "Re- size" option, does removing ~/.config/gthumb/" or pressing the Escape key have the effect you described, nor is there a "Fullscreen" option under "Settings -> Browser".
