You already listed most of them :) Does not make sense to me. Unless of course, their infrastructure generally runs on VMware (GSX Server). If they have a reason to run VMware (talking about the Server Edition) then it might be ok if the SmartCenter gets it's own partition. Generally speaking, a VMWare virtual machine is just as safe as the OS that is running within. Having access to the Vmware machine doesn't necessarily mean you have access to the virtual machine (you need to logon twice, to the real server AND to the OS that runs inside Vmware). That said, your other concerns still apply though.
