I've also heard this on Express, i.e. you only need to license a single proxy if you
had 600 users behind browsing through it. They do not directly pass through the
firewalls ext/if thus do not count on license. A large number of companies were
getting away with this for years anyway.

A user is basically an IP that passes through the f/w.

500 user lic basically means that 500 different IP's can pass through the firewall
before you violate lic.. The cp box does however cache this and thus it's not
concurrent.

It is my understanding that in Check Point express, they have actually change the code
a bit to count a "user" as only those machines that actually traverse the firewall for
Internet connectivity. This would also include any servers in the DMZ that have an
internet presence, or are needing to access resources in the LAN. You may want to
verify this with your Check Point SE.

Chris

What I meant is what the technical differences are. At installation time, you have to
choose whether to install vpn-1 pro or express, so I supose it's not just a license
issue.

Also, does anybody know what is a "user"? an ip address? a user authenticated? a
connection? ... and what does 500 users mean? concurrent users?

Greetings,

Anuska.
