I too have seen an export tool from a lesser version import into a higher version, but, this is not the way it is intended to be used (food for thought, how could an R65 pre upgrade verifier tool work for R71?). I always use the tools on the CD for that version. This is documented in the R71 installation and upgrade guide pdf, it is detailed for each platform under the advanced upgrade section. What they fail to mention when doing the manual method is you also need to copy the migrate and migrate.conf files also, thanks to Steve for pointing this out to me last October on this mailing list. here's a snip; To perform an advanced upgrade on SecurePlatform by manually importing the database:1. On the R71 Security Management server, locate the upgrade_export tool in the$FWDIR/bin/upgrade_tools
2. Copy recommended to preserve the old upgrade tools by renaming them.) 3. Run the directory.upgrade_export tool to the same directory on the source machine. (Before doing this, it isupgrade_export tool:./upgrade_export <new database name>4. The upgrade_export tool creates a <new database name>.tgz file. ________________________________ From: pkc_mls <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, January 5, 2011 2:01:24 PM Subject: Re: [FW-1] upgrade_import issue r65 to r71 Le 1/5/2011 2:07 PM, Gary Scott a écrit : > R65 exports are meant to be imported to R65 systems. I exported with r65 tools and imported it on r70 without any issue. As the r65 was 2.4 linux and the r71 is a 2.6, I'm not sure everything will work if I copy the 2.6 binaries to a 2.4 splat. I also couldn't find anywhere in the official docs that you could copy upgrade_tools from one version to a previous one. There is also no mention regarding the new format used by r71, and the log message is definitely not relevant. I'm just posting vague stuff in case some others have the same issue, so they can at least find a fast workaround.
