Hi,

uh, apologies for that last mail, don't know what happened there?

I was wondering if many on the group have moved to Check Point's
appliances, having previously been on open servers? Have you noticed a
performance degradation or any problems since moving to the appliances?
Or has your transition been seamless? Yes, I know it's a very general
question as everyone's environment is different, but generally everyone
will fall into 'happy' or 'not happy' with their situation - well, maybe
some are just content?!

We have Dell PowerEdge 2950's deployed on our perimeter as gateways, and
we are thinking of replacing them with Check Point's 4000 series of
appliances - a mixture of 4200's and 4600's. Our current gateways are
running Splat, version R75.30. From all the stats we can gather and
analyse, our gateways never seem to be stressed nor do they ever seem to
suffer from any overload. The throughputs and connections figures are
well below threshold levels. We have firewall, VPN and IPS blades but
that's it, no DLP, IA or anything else like that; our gateways aren't
virtualized nor are they clustered. We would also be moving to the
Smart-1 5 appliance for the management server.

I checked http://blog.lachmann.org/ and it has me a little concerned
that I might be moving from overpowered systems to perhaps underpowered
systems, particularly on the 4200's. Honestly, Check Point's licensing
costs are a factor in the consideration of our move.

Thanks for your time.

Regards,
eamonn
