In my experience a key issue here is the type of layer two technology the
ADSL service uses.  If it's ATM, I think you will have pretty good results.
If they use PPPoE, which I believe most ISPs do (it's much cheaper to
implement), you may have problems with packet loss and latency.

the only thing that would worry me is availability of the ADSL line which (from my experience) is not perfect to say the least!

Assuming it is possible to get an 2Mb/s ADSL connection with a fixed IP
address.
Is it practical/sensible to use this type of connection with
Firewall/VPN-1?
If is an endpoint of a Firewall/Firewall VPN which permits ftp, telnet,
nfs and flexlm connections
what problems are to be expected.
