Yeah, I have been dealing with the isakmpd cpu problem for months. It was not that. "ps -aux" gives me all of my processes, only showing about 10-15% cpu utilization on all of them combined. Yet vmstat shows anywhere from 70-90% utilized. It seems to be directly related to the amount of throughput. Right now my total throughput is about 8Mbps and my CPU is at 10-15% utilized. This morning when the firewall was getting hit pretty good, it was at about 35Mbps and 80-90% utilized. For a box that is supposed to do 200+Mbps 35Mbps of traffic shouldn't be slamming it that hard. I do realize that some of the traffic would be encrypted, but I am not sure how I would determine how much.
