in the readme file on the checkpoint 2000 CD, does your guys' version say
that it is a BETA?... Because mine says the following:
==========================================================
Release notes for Check Point VPN-1 / FireWall-1 4.1 for Red Hat Linux 6.1
This directory contains BETA version of the Check Point VPN-1 / FireWall-1
product for Linux OS. This BETA release supports RedHat Linux 6.1, with
kernel 2.2.x (kernels >= 2.2.14 are currently not supported)
1. Installation
The package provided here is a FULL version of FW-1/VPN-1 product version
4.1 SP1.
Prerequisites:
1) Working PC workstation with Ethernet NIC(s). (Other NICs are not
supported in this BETA).
2) Installed and configured RedHat Linux 6.1
Installation:
cd to the directory that contains package called
CPfw1-41-vpn+des.i386.rpm (or CPfw1-41-strong.i386.rpm if you
obtained the strong crypto version of the product).
Initiate installation process, as root:
rpm -i CPfw1-41-vpn+des.i386.rpm
This command should be executed from the command line.
Log out and log in again as root.
check that $FWDIR is set to /etc/fw and the $PATH contains /etc/fw/bin
run "cpconfig" in order to configure the firewall, as usual.
2. Known Issues
1) SNMP will not work out-of-the-box. RedHat linux comes with SNMP daemon
that is NOT properly configured to provide necessary MIBs. It can be
configured manually to provide necessary information. While the snmpd is
not configured, the managent stations will not be able to retrieve SNMP
information from remote stations
2) No support for Entrust/CMS. Linux management station will not be able to
manage Entrust certificates. Linux version of Entrust software used in
Firewall-1/VPN-1 was not available at the time of this BETA.
3) Pathways Defender can only be used through RADIUS authentiaction gateway.
4) Stability issues. This BETA shows some instability when SYN defender is
used.
5) Support for non-Ethernet NICs. This beta supports ONLY ethernet NICs. It
was tested with 10 MB/s 100 MB/s and 1000 MB/s Ethernet NICs.
6) This BETA includes High Availability support. It does not function
properly and should not be enabled. Some HA log messages may appear in
the log viewer. These messages are harmless and should be ignored.
3. Uninstalling FW-1/VPN-1
In order to uninstall this BETA, perform the following:
* Log in as root
* issue rpm -e CPfw1 command from the shell prompt
* Ignore RPM's complaints about missing directories.
==========================================================
As you can see it references the file as being BETA... maybe this is my
problem?.. Thanks for any comments.
