I had the same problem exactly. If you have a standard redhat 6.1 install just reboot and at lilo type linux-up. This should load a standard kernel. Then just change your default in lilo. Some people have it working fine with smp, but not me i am afraid....
In fact I am giving up on Linux, I have too many kernel panics, but again some people have none.... But some have tons..... :-)

Let me know how it goes.

Subject: [FW1] Linux SMP

I'm having trouble getting the eval version of FW-1 (ver 4.1) to work with the smp version of Linux (RedHat 6.1).  Has anybody else got this one to go?  I've had to link some files so that the insmod routine finds what it needs but the script fails to install the fwd even though it exits with a 'Firewall-1 started'.
BTW the mainboard is dual processor but only one processor is installed (Intel PIII).

Thanks for any help
