hi Layne,
does your firewall block icmp packets? If that's the case permit it
temporarily and test again if your ftp transfer gets still stuck.
Maybe the path mtu discovery is broken so that icmp type 3 code 4
"Fragmentation Needed and Don't Fragment was Set" is dropped
somewhere between ftp server and client, probably on your
firewall. Furthermore you can snoop on the fw's interfaces for icmp
packets having the server's or client's destination address.
