We've currently got 3 Stonebeat Full Clusters installed here at our
company. We're very pleased with it, although there are a few
issues regarding VPN failover. The support is fantastic and the
setup is fairly straight forward.
I haven't tried the Rainwall product yet, but I've heard good things
about it. Their technique is a bit different than Stonebeat in that
they use a 'floating VIP" rather than a static multicast address.
Just a note...if you're only looking for HA (not load balancing),
check out Resilience. I was at their facility yesterday and was very
impressed. It's hardware based failover using standard Sun
components. It's basically 3 single processor E-250's in one
chasis. My test was to failover an ftp and PCAnywhere session
over a DES Securemote connection through the firewall. Only a 5
second interrupt with no loss of connection. It's kinda pricey, but
you only have to purchase one Checkpoint license!!
Good luck with your decision. -BK
