The official answer is "NO" because the SP install will automatically STOP
the service. I was on the support line for several days when I had an issue
with the SP install stopping 1/2 way through the install and hanging. It
ended up being a locked file issue. If this is the case <wait until few
users are on, off peak hours...> and do the following
I.
1> stop the fw service
2> Go to services and set the firewall service to "manual"
3> Restart the system
4> Go to services and make sure the firewall service has not started
5> Run the service pack
6> Go to services and set the firewall service to automatic
7> Either restart the system and let the firewall service start, or start it
manually now
8> Validate on next restart that service boots up ok.
Service Pack 6 also has an uninstall feature, much like Microsoft's support
pack installs, in case you have any issues. I have no idea why some files
would still be locked after the service is shut down, but I've had to do
this several times with sp5. Worked every time.
II.
If the GUI client is running on the management server, then it will
automatically be updated when you run the SP update.
If you happen to be running any remote GUI clients, run the SP6 (yes the
same one) on the machine and it will update the files needed.
!!! A big no-no is to run a GUI with a lower sp than a management server,
the GUI should match the support pack on the management server !!

I had a quick question regarding FW 4.0, SP6 installation. Do you have to
stop
FW before installing SP6? The docs do not state this. I assume you dont
have
it.
Also, what updates are involved with the GUI client? (unless you are
referring
to Flavio's specific GUI client version). I'm running v4.0 Build 4031. Are
there any later versions?
Thanks.

If you have version 4.0 Single Gateway, then get SP6 and upgrade directly to
it.
Don't forget to also upgrade any remote GUI's that you may be using.

Subject: [FW1] Service packs
Hallo everybody,
I have a question about service packs.
I have FW-1 version 4.0 build 4031 single gateway product.
I installed the product from the CD, and now i see there're 5 more service
packs available.
The question is:
To upgrade to the latest service pack, is it mandatory to upgrade from the
first to the last service pack, or is it possible to install directly the
latest one???
...and
if i have to install all service packs, is the first the "full release -
SP1" ?
Thanks in advance
Flavio
