1) Nope.
2) Yup.
3) Various:
     mail dequeuer;<internaluser1@us>;<externaluser@them>;Connection to
Final-MTA failed;<internaluser1@us>;<externaluser@them>;

     mail dequeuer;<externaluser@them>;<internaluser2@us>;<rcpt to:
<internaluser2@us>> failed: 550 <internaluser2@us>... User
unknown;<externaluser@them>;<internaluser2@us>;

     mail dequeuer;<externaluser@them>;<internaluser2@us>;no vaild
recipients;<externaluser@them>;<internaluser2@us>;

     mail dequeuer;<externaluser@them>;<internaluser3@us>;Connection to
Final-MTA failed;<externaluser@them >;<internaluser3@us>;

Overview (very abbreviated) of troubleshooting:
- Rules set with Service "SMTP" : everything works fine.
- Rules set with Service "SMTP->Mail", where Mail is an SMTP Resource
defined to allow any sender, recipient, and message size *without*
referencing a CVP Server : intermittent results, some traffic blocked, some
traffic not - sometimes traffic blocked is allowed later. Internal users
are all valid. Mail servers are up and receiving / sending mail internally,
as well as externally when the SMTP Resource is not used.

If you've (or anybody has, for that matter) any suggestions I'd be happy to
hear them. :)

A few thoughts/questions:
1) are you running any sort of HA? sontebeat? rainwall? etc...
2) are you 100% sure that those servers are online that the mail is trying
to connect to?
3) in log viewer all the way to the right, what does the error message say?

Thanks,
john.

I am having the same type of problem, running FW-1 v4.0 SP5. I have tested
with the SMTP Resource not referencing our CVP Server at all, and configured
to allow all traffic, and still see the same results. My issue is
definitely the FW-1, not our content scanner. I've got an open ticket with
CheckPoint FW-1 tech support; when (if) I get this resolved I'll let you
know.

For information on troubleshooting your problem, you might want to look at
CheckPoint's knowledge base, search on "10022.0.1775733.2480161",
"10022.0.1775726.2480161", "47.0.3152661.2545258", and
"47.0.1610466.2530856" (only moderately useful, but at least it will give
you some direction on troubleshooting).
