The Compaq Web service allows you to monitor/administer Compaq servers
through a browser. Just type in the IP of the server (port 2301) in your
browser and you will see (http://myserver:2301). Previous versions of this
service had HUGE security holes where anyone could obtain the administrator
password of the system with a few commands, but I think that has been fixed.
However, I think the latest version still allows anyone to connect to the
server and run diags on it(not a good idea), check system staus, etc.
While the option to remotely manage the server is a nice idea for you, it is
a bad idea for everyone else to have that ability. The best thing to do is
TURN IT OFF COMPLETELY. Open up Services in the Control Panel and disable
the Compaq Web Services.

Subject: [FW1] Compaq cpq-wbem service. What's it for?
Hi,
I was hoping somebody on this list may be able to enlighten me as to what
the cpq-wbem service does? We have a Compaq 1850R server in a DMZ and it
appears to be broadcasting (dest. 255.255.255.255) using this service. I
believe it is port 2301. Should this be allowed outside the DMZ, or can I
turn it off somehow. It is filling my logs quite quickly!
Any help appreciated. I'm a bit new to this but the list proves to be great
reading at times! I'm still amazed I was able to configure the Intrusion
Detection script today......
