Hi All,
It has been many moons so i hope all are well locking down the
hatches..;-)) FW1 i not all bad as it sure makes things very high level
whereas you will need to know more to use ipchains successfully that is..
There are inhernet issues with FW1 where is simply sinks IMHO.
This can be said about the 2.2.x versions of the linux kernel as well.
But the attitude is in the right place. THINK DEFENSE IN DEPTH.
That is a key concept and sorry but throwing $$ on fw solution without a strong
knowledge base is sort of like being a weekend (whatever that is;-)) *player)
It is most important to know the issues with each tool that you have and
do it yourself solutions tend to IMHO offer the most flexibility. But @ a price
in time.
Your comment ..
in terms of being a solid, secure, reliable firewall.
Well that is all relative and to lesser and greater degrees so if you can live
with that then welcome to the Internet;-))
Best Regards,

Reuters, London, February 29, 1998:
Scientists have announced discovering a meteorite which will strike the
earth in March, 2028. Millions of UNIX coders expressed relief for being
spared the UNIX epoch "crisis" of 2038.
