I just did this last week! According to my sources you CANNOT do a direct
3.0b to 4.1... which sucks. Here is the "path" that I took.
3.0b to 4.0
4.0 to 4.0 sp3
4.0sp3 to 4.1
4.1 to 4.1 sp1
If you are doing an inplace migration, the firewall handles the migration of
the rules automatically for you. If you are migrating to a new box (which I
did) I installed 3.0b & installed my temp cert key. Then I copied the entire
"conf" directory from the old firewall to the new box. Restarted. (kept the
firewall physically down) upgraded to 4.0, then went to 4.0sp3. I made sure
I could push the policy. That worked. Then upgrade to 4.1 and do the same.
I had a bit of a problem because I needed temp keys for 3.0b and 4.0 and 4.1
to get the project uderway, so, make sure you get those first.
I didn't have any problems after that and I'm happly on 4.1 sp1 (checkpoint
2000)
Good luck

Subject: [FW1] 3.0b to 4.0/4.1
I am preparing to upgrade our firewall environment, which is currently
running
3.0b. I was wondering whether it would be better to go directly to 4.1 or if
there was a legitimate reason to go up in steps. If upgrading straight to
4.1 is
a good idea, is there any information available regarding how best to do it?
Especially in regards to importing the objects and rules? i would appreciate
any
input.
