Log size is depending on FW throughput. We had ~5GB logs a day on our busiest
system, so 8 GB would barely enough to "rescue" the FW the very next morning if
archiving it off the system went wrong. One could switch off logging, but then
poking for errors will be more problematic.
In short: using a non-root partition for the logs is highly advisable. Everthing
else depends on your mileage.
