We have a manual ipsec VPN set up between two sites running 4.0sp5 on Nokia
ipso.
The two have private address ranges, hence the need for ipsec with
encapsulation.
The VPN works in that we can telnet in both directions etc. But...

smtp and ftp connections only appear to work in one direction. Going the
other way, we can initiate a session, open the connection, but when trying
to send a file no data is transferred and eventually the connection times
out.

ftp' ing from the remote site, the connection is opened, you can log in, put
file etc. but the file stays at 0 bytes on the host computer and eventually
the transfer is dropped.

The firewall logs just show accepts for the relevant encrypts and decrypts
and tcpdump just shows packet type 51 going between the firewalls.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?
