For any wanna know how I installed my new server (thanks to all answering
me):
1- I backup then the old FW server (v3.0b) in a tar file from /etc/fw/*
2- On my new Sun server, i've decompress the tar file to /etc/fw directory
(do not decompress the v3.0b on a link (ln) from /etc/fw/ --> /opt/CPfw1-41,
because the installed program will delete the old version (3.0b) after the
installation (dir /etc/fw) and then create a new link from /etc/fw/ -->
/opt/CPfw1-41.
3- Then I've installed version FW 4.1 sp1 from the CD. The installed
program say me he will upgrade from 3.0b to 4.1 sp1.
4- After that, installed the sp2...
That's it. bye

Objet : RE: [FW1] Changing the firwall computer
Perhaps you can use this tip:
"To backup FireWall-1 setup information:
Save the $FWDIR/conf/fwauth.NDB* files. This ensures the original binary
database file is backed up. In a FireWall-1 rebuild situation, placing these
files in their appropriate directory along with the objects.C, *.W, and
rulebases.fws brings FireWall-1 back up.
One other way to back up the User Database (if you don't use encryption) is:
To backup the Network Objects, save: $FWDIR/conf/objects.C
To backup the Rule Base, save: $FWDIR/conf/*.W
To backup all Rule Bases, save: $FWDIR/conf/rulebases.fws
To backup User Database, run the command: $FWDIR/bin/fw dbexport -f [output
file] You will then need to backup the output file from this command."
Good luck
Alvaro

Asunto: [FW1] Changing the firwall computer
Hi,
I want to change the computer of our firewall, and recover the Users, Rules,
Objects, Encryption keys, etc. In fact, I need to recover all information
from our firewall to the new computer. I think the only thing that will be
different is the name of the network interfaces.
I try to find a doc on how to recover all information from one Firewall to a
other, but failed.
I already installed a fresh new installed firewall on the new system
(Solaris 2.7). Almost forget to say, I change also the version of the
firewall. The old one was v3.0b (on a Sun Enterprise Ultra 1), and the new
one was v4.1 sp2 (on Enterprise 250).
Someone have already a doc on how to recover all config form one Firewall
server to a other ?
I already recover the objects, by merging it (Thanks to :
So I think I need these doc :
-Recover Rules
-Recover Users
-Recover Encryption Key (We use VPN)
Forget some other thing to recover?
Did we have some information we cannot recover and need to do it manualy?
Thanks
