Probably combining BlackICE and ZoneAlarm will give you the best results.
Spyware is nicely detected using ZoneAlarm.

I had occassion to build a quick network of around 300 users completely
laden with trojans and spyware because they were all "internet addict" types.
We scanned the network and found MANY infected with various trojans,
like Socket23 and a couple others which we did not identify.
DSS Pro sniffer running on the Internet segment showed very interesting
traffic topology. (the traffic map tool is kind of cool)
Lot's of "spurious" UDP traffic with small payloads sent to hosts with no
DNS ptr records.
I think most of these so called "personal firewalls" are useless for blocking
this stuff since they seem to be aimed at attacks sourced from outside and
not within.
