Here is a question that is bothering me from work.......
we have a unix firewall that has 5 interfaces (hme0, qfe0 -4). This
firewalls main concern is to protect our web site. There is a T1 link back
to our office that connects me to the servers for work and maintenance. This
T1 has naturally two routers on the ends that the end in the office goes
into a switch that has our staging and development servers on it. We have
been experiencing some latency and in trying to troubleshoot the problem, we
have been doing pings and traceroutes. One thing that is odd is that once
the traceroute gets from our office to the external location across the T1
it hits that external interface of the remote firewall. It should go into in
this example qfe2 but it is going into hme0 (the external interface). Is
this normal??? What might I be missing. TIA.
