Joe,
I can't actually answer your question, but I had to work around the same 
problem. Since we're a small shop, I'm also the mail admin. Trying to debug 
mail problems was a nightmare, so I routed incoming mail to an incoming mx 
without the smtp security server. Then I relayed it through the cvp server. 
This let me add the received headers.
