Thanks Tom,
I think that the whole issue is what kind of OS is running the CP client.
The 4.1 boxes are acting as stand alone management and firewalls, and the
4.0 machines are being managed by a management station (kind of - out of 13
firewalls, four have management modules on them). Part of the problem is
that the machine that is running the client for the 4.1 machines is Solaris
and CheckPoint requires a license on the Solaris machine in order to run the
Motif client. It currently has a 4.1 license, but not a 4.0 license.
Because the 4.0 and 4.1 binaries are in different directories, I am a little
bit hesitant to install a 4.0 license on the machine in order to manage the
new (4.0) firewalls. I think that what we are going to do is create a login
menu that will set the environment variables based on what the individual
plans to do, namely manage a 4.0 machine or a 4.1 machine.
By the way, this is a short term solution. The 4.0 machines are currently
being managed by another company and they will be upgraded shortly after we
take control of them.

Chris,
I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago. I had a handful of 4.0
firewalls that were being managed by a 4.0 management server, while the 4.1
firewalls were being locally managed (STAND ALONE). I upgraded the
management server to 4.1 and installed the new 4.1 management keys and
everything worked beautifully. Now my 4.0 and 4.1 firewalls can communicate
with the management server.
You don't need to install your 4.0 keys on your 4.1 management server. Does
your management server have backward compatibility enabled?

Subject: [FW1] Different license versions
Hello All,
Here is the issue: I have several firewalls (v4.1) that are managed from a
central Solaris machine. I am taking over control of several more firewalls
that are running v4.0. Can I install licenses from two different versions
of Firewall-1 on the same machine in order to manage them all from the same
place?
Extra info: Upgrading is not an option at this time
Also, if anyone has any suggestions that might make this smoother, I am open
to all. I am concerned about the whether the new license for 4.0 will even
be seen by the appropriate processes.
Thanks in advance,
Chris Koger
