Hello again.
As a follow up to my previous message, and probably to spare you an answer, I just
noticed and did what follows, after which everything seems back to normal:
* the %FWDIR%tmp directory didn't exist (hence the manage.lock file didn't exist
either). How it disappeared, I don't know, except if someone really wandered in.
* I recreated an empty %FWDIR%tmp directory, then rebooted the machine
* the files inside %FWDIR%tmp are back
At the same time, I started a to/from the firewall packet sniffing, just in case.
