Zend_Cache will let you cache the result of either so for highly static pages 
there will be no practical difference in speed.

    Lets not feed the trolls.

    Better/best is all relative. I use Zend_View because I don't need anything 
more than basic php statements to write a view. Others will have good reasons 
for using Smarty.

      Which is the best? Which do you choose? Why?

      I am afraid to start using SMARTY and then ZEND_VIEW goes better...
