Hi Ralf, Should be possible. I think there may have been a holdup since the traditional URI is now supplemented by the IRI which is an internationalised form which allow for a range of Unicode characters (each national registry defines it's own valid character range).
There is at least some (or all?) of this now supported I believe. It probably just needs to be integrated into a Zend_Validate_Uri taking from the existing Hostname/IP validators.
