Fortunately, I was able to track down this problem. The server was accidently rebooted last night and although the database was available (I was able to access it via phpMyAdmin) the application was not able to connect to the database server. A reboot of the MySQL server finally solved the problem. Now I know that I need to add another fallback to my application to track and log these kind of errors. Thanks anyway and Best Regards, Ralf
