Hi all,

We'd like to submit Zend Framework as a mentoring organization for the
Google Summer of Code.

Unfortunately the due date for submission is the day after tomorrow so
we're a bit late to the game (we've been heads down on ZF 1.5 in the
past few weeks).

You can read about GSoC 2008 at http://code.google.com/soc/2008/.

Some ideas that our team has:

- Implement something similar to DLINQ for ZF
(http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2008/01/07/dynamic-linq-part-1-u
sing-the-linq-dynamic-query-library.aspx). This could be taking the
ideas in Zend_Db_Select but extending them to data structures, XML and
possibly other interfaces.

- Implement read support for Office data formats (.doc, .xls,
.ppt, .docx, etc...) in order to enable indexing and searching with
Lucene.

If you have any ideas for substantial functionality for ZF which would
be big enough for a GSoC and/or have been a significant contributor to
ZF and are willing to be a mentor (please read the Google Web site to
see what commitment you'd need to take upon yourself) then please let us
know ASAP. You can email myself, Wil and/or the whole list. Zend will
make sure to get organization submission done by the deadline and
include the strong ideas.

Sorry again for the late notice... Bad timing in relation to ZF 1.5. Any
questions, drop me a line.

Best,

Andi
