Ignore me! It's a problem that's been lurking for a while I just hadn't noticed. It is to do with 1.5.2, the files on the old setup were cached and the new one I didn't copy the cache... Therefore the plugin / helper that creates the cache files is broken in 1.5.2 so thankfully I've found the answer and yes I am kicking myself!! :D
