Success!! Thanks for all the help. I actually had a third request in there, but for some unknown reason using resetParameters(); and setConfig(), I was still getting an issue with cookies not being passed on, and a local redirect issue even with maxredirects set to 0. After restarting Apache2, the issue cleared up and has not happened again. Some where down the line with extensive trial/error testing, it started ignoring my overrides.
