Then this is what i will do :)

$limit = ( ($format == 'excel') ? count($rows) : 100 );

   $page=$this->_getParam('page', 1);
   $paginator = Zend_Paginator::factory($rows);
   $paginator->setItemCountPerPage($limit);
   $paginator->setCurrentPageNumber($page);

   $this->view->applications = $paginator;
