I had the same problem and created the following ticket for it:

I also added to the ticket a function which allows to parse the output of
protocol->requestAndResponse('FETCH', array($id, 'BODYSTRUCTURE'))
While coding the function, I noticed that there is a bug in
protocol->_decodeLine :

A possible fix is also attached to the ticket.
