I'd go with the newer version. If ZF is already in your PHP include path,
make sure that your application isn't adding another copy of it to the
include path.

As for your other question, you might want to read up on how ZF implements
the MVC pattern.

You should also look into using the url view helper instead of constructing
your urls manually with string concatenation. It might make things a little
clearer once you start putting the pieces together.
