Jason, I've had this problem with Suse. It was caused by the programs creating A4 documents, not by a printer queue problem. You can probably check if this is the case by opening a postscript file you know is standard letter-size in ghostview (or whatever viewer is the default) and printing. Jason, I'll send you a one-page postscript file privately.
