Folks, What I did to get things running in parallel [BTW, I suppose my file system is ext3, and I never had an NFS problem.]
I did only two things to get ORCA working on SMP dual-dual 64bit AMD box with 6 Gigs of memory running RHEL4. 1) I downloaded and installed the rsh-server RPM http://mirrors.easynews.com//linux/centos/4/os/x86_64/CentOS/RPMS/rsh-server-0.17-25.4.x86_64.rpm 2) I created an .rhosts file containing 'machine-name user-id' on one line in my home directory with permission 600. That's about it. It's now running a B2-PLYP geometry optimization on all four processors. Again, best regards to all who sent suggestions.
