Many of the T40s don't have wireless.. In MS Windows it would show up as an Atheros card if it was there... the MiniPCI card is under the keyboard if you want to check... just get the screws with a small keyboard and then slide the keyboard forward to unlock and lift....
My last 4 laptops.... Thinkpad ELD360, Thinkpad T23, Thinkpad T42P, Thinkpad T61..... Look for the pattern...
