Hi everyone,
I'm playing with tinycore linux (www.tinycorelinux.com) right now and
I'm pretty darned impressed.
With a little (very little) messing around I had Firefox 3.5 up and
running (and running with acceptable speed, I might add) on an old
Compaq laptop with a Celeron 333 and only 128 MB of RAM and an old
Netgear wifi card. Not even Damn Small handled that machine as well. So
I also tried it on one of our old Acer C100 tablets, which seem to be
finicky about most distros (they don't like Ubuntu or Fedora without
heavy tweaking) and it ran there without a hitch. Sure, no tablet
functionality (yet) but it was up and running in a flash.
The only drawback is the need to start out with a wired network
connection to download the standard wifi modules (maybe there's an
easier way I just don't know yet) and the need for a little manual
tweaking, but otherwise, it's pretty slick.
Very cool, for those of us with funky hardware...
Cheers,
Vern
