So I've run across randon stuff on-line that claims Verizon was making
a profit on FIOS, but not enough of a profit for investors to think it
was worth the investment. Here's a NYTimes article that I found
frustrating:

Does anyone have a good reference for what the upper, upper limit on
the cable modem speeds will be. Is the DOCSIS 3.0 the highest it can
go without laying new cable to each house? I'm curious whether, in the
5-10 year horizon, it is reasonable to believe that our basic cable
connection would still be around or if it will go the way of the
telephone/DSL line and become too slow...
