There was a RFC on this for Perl 6 and JAPHs. Basically, these exercise some pretty nasty syntax stuff, and could be considered as part of the core tests. Maybe you *can* play Golf and return your dues to the perl authors at the same time... lets see if anyone can justify that to their boss along the lines of: "I'm not playing golf, just writing complex tests for the perl core!" or another excuse entirely: "You wanted Perl... I'm writing Perl... by the way, did you even read that Perl is mostly line noise?
