The only cool perl trick I recall at this instant is the Schwartzian
Transform; if you haven't run across it and it doesn't Google right up, let
me know and I'll be glad to compose a review of it. I think the canonical
explanation of it is in Tom Christiansen's Far More Than Everything You
Ever Wanted To Know (FMTEYWTK) series.
even more than that article you can check out Sort::Maker on cpan which
can generate ST sorts as well as GRT sorts (which can be faster) and two
other slower sort techniques. it has a article explaining each sort
style and a benchmark script that compares them.
