I am trying to take an early USB-only clamshell iBook from 10.3 to 10.4. I realize I have to hack the installer to do this.
>From earlier posts, there seems to be TWO ways to accomplish this: 10.4 upgrade CDs, or Carbon Copy Clone a 10.4 system from another mac. I have a 10.4 DVD, but the iBook only has a CD reader. I download the CD version of 10.4 and burned the install discs, but my CD drive has difficulties with burned CDs, and won't read the disc. It seems ok with standard CDs. I can hook up an external drive via USB 1.1, and I assume I could probably clone FROM the internal hard drive TO the external hard drive, but how would I clone FROM an external drive TO the internal drive, if I am booted from said internal drive? Can you clone over your active boot disk? Or, thirdly, can I boot from a 10.3 install CD, and somehow use diskcopy to clone 10.4 from a USB hard drive to the internal hard drive? thanks, Greg --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's G-Books list, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
