Hello! I have acquired a free Apple PowerBook G3 Wallstreet Series 1
from a friend. He got it from a recycling bin at his job, and has no
prior experience with that computer. It didn't come with an AC
Adapter, and the battery was discharged, so I went on eBay and bought
an AC Adapter. When I plugged it in, I noticed it didn't fit in all
the way, but the machine booted up into Mac OS 8.1! I look at the
battery control strip, and it shows One battery icon on one side, with
a power-plug icon next to it, not a lightning bolt. On the other side
of the battery control strip, it shows an all white battery, even
though I only have one battery. In the menu bar, I see a battery icon
with a white top, the rest blue, and a little red at the bottom. Then,
after like 5 minutes, the battery icon turns all red, then it forgets
the battery is even in the computer! A red X icon shows over the
battery even though it is inserted into the bay. Someone on the Apple
support forums has a similar problem, but they have a brand new
battery that won't charge.

I don't know if mine is chargeable or not. I tried charging the
battery with the lid closed all night, but when I pressed the status
level button, it showed no lights. I unplugged the Adapter plug while
sleeping, and the computer shut off immediately. What can I do! I
don't want to get a new battery yet! I have tried resetting PRAM,
resetting the battery using Battery Reset 2.0, Swapping the bays! The
user on the Apple support forums solved his problem by charging his
computer with the lid closed. Is there anything else to try? Thank you
