Don't know, but you can type a number into the box, I found that you  
need to enter 7.85 or lower for it to work.

Once you've got OS X installed, move the Users directory to the larger  
partition.

This gives you 8GB for the System directory and Applications which is  
generally more than enough.

I only ran into problems with this scheme when I installed a DVD  
burner on my upgraded Beige G3, and needed to make 4GB free for burn  
images.
