Hello everyone! I managed to snag a iBook G3 Dual USB 500 Mhz, 128 MB
RAM, 10 GB HD, and 10.3.9 Panther at a computer fair for $99! When I
got it, it was running reasonably fast! I wanted to upgrade to Tiger,
so I added a 256 MB stick to total the system memory to 320 MB. I have
the CD-ROM version of Tiger. I put install the first disc and it
booted. I opted to wipe the hard drive and do a fresh installation. I
customized it to remove all the printer drivers other than HP, and all
of the language translations. It would require Install Disc 2 and 3 I
think. Maybe 4. I let it check the first install disk, and it was
fine. It installed the essentials and base system, and then rebooted.
It prompted me for Install Disc 2, which I put in. It starts off by
installing the BSD subsystem, which I didn't want it to do. After it
completes, the installer crashes and it says "The Application
"Installer" Has Quit Unexpectedly." Then it proceeds to keep
installing the BSD subsystem, and it gets caught in this loop. After a
while, it finally tells me there were errors installing the software.
What do you think is wrong? The CD does not look scratched? Is there a
way to check the integrity of the CD? I can see all of the files using
my iMac superdrive. Do you think RAM is an issue? I have no other RAM
cards really to test, because all of them would not equal 256 MB, the
amount to install tiger. Unfortunately, I do not have a firewire cable
to use Target Disk mode to install it. Any suggestions? Thank you all
very much!
