Not sure if it's relevant but I read an announcement on the web that  
an Apple spokeperson has declared that replacing the battery in the  
new MBP 17" would cost $179 at the Apple store where you can walk in  
to have it replace and wait for them to perform the replacement. The  
flat fee includes the battery and the service, which doesn't seem too  
bad.
