There is a version of ad-blocking software available for Safari, under  
OS X 10.5, here:

I don't know about that, but I do know that the best add-on for
speeding up Firefox (especially on older macs) is Ad Block Plus. It
eliminates almost all annoying static and animated ads, lessening the
load on your processor.
