I've been quite pleased with Flashblocker on my Pismo (Tiger, Firefox) <http://www.mind-download.com/2008/02/flashblocker-for-firefox.html> Displays the flash logo and a "play" icon, press play to view the animation. Definitely makes the web more do-able with an elderly graphics card...
