Hi there: well, as a sad semi-resolution to my problem of the power
socket broken-off from the board: I had disassembled the iBook (see
below) enough to extract the pin that had broken off of the power
cord (the original problem), but in the process I inadvertently
snapped the socket for the power cables off of the board. Having
never done anything like this before, I practiced the various steps
for close to an hour (tweezers and a toothpick were my most useful
tools), I managed to glue the socket back on, I even managed to re-
trace the connections with a conductive-fluid pen, and I managed to
get it all put back together. But it won't fire up. I assume I didn't
get the connections traced properly...it was a very small space to
work in.

So I take it this little item is pretty much history. I plan to sell
it for parts shortly. Unless, of course, there's some other way to go.

My question now is: How do I know which external HD enclosure to get
so as to retrieve the data? Or is there some other way to do so? The
less expensive the better, in case you hadn't figured that out yet.

As always my thanks in advance!
