hi, I just had an emergency with my hd failed on my pismo (g4 upgrade,
576RAM, tiger + jaguar + 9 + debian "etch" + 8.1 w/basiliskII under
debian)

i got an 80 gig seagate drive locally and luckily had mostly back up,
and a backup drive to restore from so Tiger is running again within a
day.

but target firewire is broken - T key hold down results in it trying
but shuts off just before target mode is reached (like it turns off
instantly).

could be incompatible hd. like the firewire recovered the backup ok.
problem is I can't restore my linux w/out target because my dvd is
broke.

any suggestions here ? I could get a new dvd or try an external one
(not sure linux would boot from it). I would like my target mode back
but the new hd I would like to keep as it is 3x faster than the old
one (as tested by Xbench), I really needed the space for a while, and
the time I am investing here (downtime and take away from other
things). I got this used replacement for $40 and I am kinda overbudget
for the month...

By the way saved me some last few weeks of work I could access the
failing drive in os9 but only for ~10 minutes and decreasing over
several times to zero, booting from a zip rescue disk, I recovered
those files I had been no backing up.
